Back in the days of house phones, rotary dial, and party lines, Hayward Partman began his employment career, as a janitor, with Southern Bell Telephone Company. He was the first black janitor hired at Southern Bell with benefits. Southern Bell later became South Central Bell and Mr. Partman's position title was changed to Custodian. As years went by and company policies changed, so did the company's name. The new name was Bell South and Mr. Partman gained a position in housekeeping. Mr. Partman performed his duties with pride and was blessed to provide for the needs of his family. Later, his hard work and dedication would earn him a position of Installer. Mr. Partman was the first black Installer at BellSouth in Washington Parish. While he is now retired and blessed to reap the benefits of his long, hard labor, Mr. Partman has fond reflections and often reminisces of the many years he spent working with the telephone company and the great citizens of Washington Parish.
Happy February birthday to Sharon Partman, Alton Barnes, Linda S. Wilson, Lakeigh Brown, Brenda Magee and Mary Warren.
