Spring is in the air but the official first day of Spring is not until March 20th. Daylight Savings Time begins on March 12th. I love the extra hours of daylight that this “Spring-Forward” time-concept affords us. Hope you all are getting ready for Spring, the season for new beginnings.

*Sunday, February 26th was Youth Sunday and they presented a very inspirational Black History Program. The youth did an outstanding job with a skit, praise dance, poem, reading and musical selections. In addition, Sis Brenda (Martin) Robinson was honored as a “History Maker” for being the first Black person to work at First Bank State as a Teller/Supervisor and the first Black person to work at the Washington Parish Clerk of Court Office, etc. Pastor August’s sermon came from Matthew 4:1 and was entitled “In the Wilderness”. He encouraged us to trust God in all circumstances. Amen.

*The 2022 WPFF Spelling Bee Participant Award was presented to De'Kelyah Weary, a 6th Grader @ VJHS, during the WPSB Meeting on February 9, 2023.
* Mrs. Kelly Stubbs has been selected as both the Varnado Junior High School & the Washington Parish Junior High Teacher of the Year 2021-2022. The Varnado High Teacher of the Year for 2021-2022 is Agriculture Teacher, Mrs. Kayln Yount. In addition, Anthony Stubbs was selected as the Pine Junior High Teacher of the Year for 2021-2022. He presently serves as an Asst. Principal at VHS. Congratulations to you all!

*The National “Read Across America Day” is on March 2nd, which is Dr. Seuss’ Birthday. The school will celebrate this exciting occasion from March 1-3 with themed “Dress-Up Days” that include; wearing your favorite hat or socks, dressing like your favorite Dr. Suess character and wearing your college gear or dressing for your dream job. .
