Today I wanted to share with you about an encounter I had in a restaurant last week. I stopped at this popular eatery to get a buffet-to-go and while waiting in line for service, I noticed someone waving at me from a distance. Upon approaching this lady I didn’t recognize her but she hurriedly introduced herself as the mother of one of my former students and hugged me. I then remembered that her son’s life was taken due to a violent crime recently. I expressed my sincere sympathy repeatedly. She shared that she and her family just take one day at a time. She thanked me for teaching him and his brothers stating that, “I was the only one who could get them together”. After we said our goodbyes, I reflected upon this mother’s strength in spite of her dire circumstances. I paused to say a silent prayer for her and her family. #Don’tBurnBridges #TreatPeopleRight
