According to the Red Cross Blood Donation website every 15 seconds someone needs platelets. Platelets must be used within 5 days and new donors are needed every day. Anyone can give blood. You need to be at least 16 with an ID and parental consent (or 17 and older), weigh at least 110 pounds, and in good health. Whole blood donations can help up to 3 patients with a single donation and a person can give one unit of blood every 56 days. Plasma and platelets are also vital for all types of patients especially cancer patients. Please give blood if you are able.
