Two years ago, we were sent home from Enon Elementary on March 13th thinking that we would come back to school in about 2 weeks. There was this thing called Covid 19 or the Coronavirus that was running rampant in other parts of the world, surely it would not touch us here. Those two weeks turned into more weeks, which turned in to we will need to finish school out virtually.
I still don’t know how to feel about all of that 2 years later. My daughters missed out on a lot as well as other kids and adults as well.
Now before you say it, yes, I know others have had it worse, but I feel bad for our kids. No matter how resilient they are they missed out on a lot of “rite of passage” things. Annalise turned 13 during that time and for some that may not be a big deal, but to a girl, becoming a teenager is important and being on quarantine just wasn’t what we wanted. I thought of what we could do to make it special, so a birthday parade it was! She did enjoy it, we cried and laughed, because --- hey --- who doesn’t love being the center of attention on your birthday with people honking, waving, blaring sirens, throwing gifts, and holding up HAPPY BIRTHDAY signs?!
Then Gracie turned 15 and she was able to go to Kansas at that time, but I had never been away from her on her birthday and wasn’t quite sure what to do. Proms, graduations, weddings, funerals, all were cancelled or revamped in big ways. It was a difficult time for all of us, kids and adults alike, but we have made it 2 whole years. (I will be honest, it was dramatic, traumatic, and downright scary at times.) I pray that we never have anything like this again.
Daylight Savings Time happened this past weekend, it may take me until the next one to get used to it. This time change though means Spring and Summer is coming, I hate losing an hour, but love the longer days. Maybe I will actually get some things done around the yard with all the extra daylight, but probably not. If the prices of gas and groceries keep rising, I may learn canning and gardening. I think I may try my hand at a few vegetables and see how that goes.
We finally found a Prom dress for Gracie. I was thinking it was going to be an emotional thing that would take forever. It was the first dress she tried on and there were no tears. I was very impressed with the store we used and how helpful they were.
The fundraisers for our Youth and Children’s Playground were quite successful. Thank you for all of your support. We would love to have you visit us at Enon Baptist Church. We have Sunday School at 9:30 am, Worship at 10:45 am, Evening Worship 6 pm, and Wednesday nights Children In Action at 5:30 pm and Church at 6 pm. Happy birthday to Dakota Rester, my nephew TJ Gay, and one of our amazing teachers Charlene Williams. Condolences to the families of Carolyn Pierce and Olivia David.
Enon Elementary School will have a LEAP night for 3rd-6thgrade parents on Thursday, March 17th at 5:30 pm. We look forward to seeing you there. Report cards will go home on March 21st. March 17th is St. Patrick’s Day, students may wear green, headpieces, socks, etc. Our Pre-K students have loved visiting the “big” library every two weeks. We loved listening to Mrs. Winola read stories to us and last time we sang songs! If you have a student, feel free to go by and get a library card for your child. They absolutely love going to the library and that will keep their love of learning alive.
I hope you all have a wonderful week. If you have any information to share, just message me or email me, I would love to share. Thank you for all the positive feedback I have received lately. You sure know how to make an ol’ girl feel good. I appreciate each of you! Until next week…
