The Franklinton Demons football team picked up a nice win over the Fontainebleau Bulldogs last Thursday on the road, moving their record to 3-1.
The Demons came out fast and easily won 41-20. Leading 41-6, the Demons pulled the starters and played the reserves for a large portion of the second half.
The Demons will play the 4-0 Sumner Cowboys this week on Thursday at Demon Stadium. The Cowboys are the LSWA 3A #1 ranked team in Louisiana.
Ricardo Burris opened the Fontainebleau game by returning the kickoff eighty yards for a touchdown to put the Demons up 7-0 early. The Bulldogs responded with a long drive, running the ball mostly and scored, but the extra point was blocked to keep the Demons ahead 7-6.
After a Chakyn McClain interception the Demons scored again when Jacob Crain found DaMikies McClain for a 43 yard reception to go up 14-6. On the Bulldogs next possession the Demons’ Tyler Magee scooped up a loose ball and returned it for a touchdown to put the Demons up 21-6 late in the first period.
Tayler McCray intercepted a Bulldog pass to end their next drive and the Demons scored on a 16 yard pass from Crain to Burkhalter to put the Demons up 28-6 at halftime. DaMikies McClain intercepted a desperation pass as time ran out just before halftime.
Crain ran in a 9 yard touchdown in the third to make the score 35-6 and Crain hit Burkhalter for a 58 yard touchdown and a 41-6 score.
The Bulldogs managed two scores against the Demons reserves on a 31 yard pass and an 11 yard pass for the final score of 41-20.
FHS Coach Nick Saltaformaggio saw some positives in the game. "We struggled to run the ball and block some of their movements, but we were able to make enough plays in the passing game to score. I thought Jacob played very well and that's what we expect from him.”
“Starting fast was important, so returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown was a great way to get everything rolling.”
“Defensively, the turnovers were huge. Our kids fly around and make plays on the football. We play fast and physical and we have a nose for the ball. It was good to see us put a more complete game together with two huge contests ahead of us in the next two weeks, starting with an excellent Jewel Sumner team this coming Thursday."
Jacob Crain passed for 250 yards and 3 touchdowns completing 15 of 18 attempts and rushed twice for 22 yards and a touchdown.
Jayden Burkhalter was the leading receiver with 6 receptions for 135 yards and two touchdowns. DaMikies McClain caught 6 for 95 yards and a touchdown, Ricardo Burris caught two for 6 yards and Dalton Freeman caught one for 14 yards. Burris rushed 13 times for 33 yards, Burkhalter rushed once for 2 yards, Stephen Tate rushed 9 times for 18 yards and Freeman rushed once for 3 yards. Chris Gonzales was 5 of 6 on extra points.
