The Franklinton Demons football team played a partial scrimmage against the Kentwood Kangaroos last Thursday in Demon Stadium. The scrimmage was delayed twice for lighting then cancelled after the third lighting delay. The teams did get a bit of work in before the cancellation.
The teams began with a goal line series each. The Demons moved the ball but couldn't get into the endzone on their limited plays. Kentwood scored on their series on a nice run play.
The teams then ran a set of ten plays in which the Demons scored when senior quarterback Kerston Diddon found senior receiver Jayden Burkhalter over the middle and Burkhalter went the distance for a 46 yard touchdown.
Kentwood moved the ball during their set of plays but did not score. The lightning ended the scrimmage at this point after the officials conferred with the coaches.
Coach Nick Saltaformaggio, beginning his fourth season as head coach of the Demons, still believes in his team. "I am a firm believer in playing excellent teams. I was impressed with both of us and believe that we are very, very good. I thought our defense played well. We have to limit the big play especially on third and long. Offensively, our skill is special. Kerston has been as good as advertised and Burkhalter and company will be elite."
Quarterback Kerston Diddon was three of four for 70 yards and a touchdown. Jayden Burkhalter had one reception for 46 yards and a touchdown. Stephen Tate rushed five times for 18 yards.
The Demons will travel to Mandeville Friday to play the Skippers in their jamboree.
