The Franklinton Demons baseball team defeated the formerly undefeated Bogalusa Lumberjacks 16-1 in the opening game of the Franklinton baseball tournament last Thursday.
In the second game of a double header the Demons also slipped by a good Maurepas Wolves team, 4-3.
On Friday the Demons defeated the Sumner Cowboys 8-1 and they defeated Karr on Saturday 6-2 to go 4-0 in their tournament and move their overall record to 9-3.
The Bogalusa Lumberjacks opened the scoring in the first inning as they drew a walk before putting a second runner on by hitting a single. A fielders choice allowing the lead runner to score for a 1-0 lead by the Jacks.
The Demons promptly answered in the bottom of the inning as they used two hits and several defensive miscues to go ahead 3-1. The Demons stretched that lead in the second as they scored twelve runs to go up 15-1.
After holding the Jacks in the top of the third the Demons added another run in the third when Hunter Richard singled to lead off and scored on a sacrifice fly. This ended the game due to the run rule.
Kaedyn Jenkins was the leading hitter with three singles followed by Cayman Pugh with a double and a single. Parker DeCarlo and Jordy Thomassen each had a double. Jojo Burkhalter, Bryce Barber, Kaden Breaux and Hunter Richard each had singles.
Jojo Burkhalter pitched the entire three inning game allowing two hits, one walk and striking out three.
Against the Wolves of Maurepas the Demons opened the scoring in the first as they used a Sinceno triple to score Burkhalter who had drawn a walk before Sinceno scored on a groundout by Barber to put the Demons up 2-0.
In the fifth inning the Wolves used three singles, a hit batter and a triple to score three runs and take the lead at 3-2.
The Demons answered in the bottom half of the inning as they used three singles, a passed ball and a sacrifice fly to retake the lead at 4-3. The Demons defense then held the Wolves from crossing the plate in the final two innings to win the hard fought game.
DaRon Sinceno had a triple and a single, Kaden Breaux had two singles and Jordy Thomassen and Parker DeCarlo each had a single.
Dalton Freeman pitched four and two-thirds innings allowing four hits, one walk and striking out five. Kaedyn Jenkins pitched one third of an inning allowing two hits and striking out one. Rick Songy pitched the final two innings allowing two hits, no walks and striking out three. ed
The Demons will play in the Lutcher tournament this Thursday, Friday and Saturday against Berwick, South Lafourche and Dutchtown.
