The Pine Raiders baseball team defeated the 5A Slidell Tigers last Friday 8-1 in a non-district game.
The Raiders went up 1-0 in the first inning and added another run in the second inning. The Tigers closed the lead to 2-1 with a run in the top of the third before the Raiders increased their lead in the fifth inning. The Raiders used two hits, two errors, a base on balls and a passed ball to go up 5-1 after five innings of play.
The Raiders increased their lead in the sixth as they used a single, an error, a base on balls and three hit batters to increase their lead to 8-1.
The Raiders defense did well as they held off the Tigers from scoring in the second and the fifth as they had the bases loaded.
The Tigers could not mount a rally in the seventh and the Raiders took a huge non district win over the Slidell team.
Kage Freeman was the leading hitter with two singles. Bryce Marks and Easton Barber each had a single.
Liam Jenkins pitched four innings allowing two hits, three walks and striking out three. Brody Thomas pitched two innings striking out four and Levi White pitched one inning allowing one hit.
Pine will host St Thomas Aquinas on Thursday March 5 and also host Liberty on Saturday March 7. They’ll be at Albany on March 10.
