The Franklinton Demons baseball team opened their 2025 season with a jamboree win over neighboring Pine Raiders last Friday afternoon. In a three inning game the Demons defeated the Raiders 9-0.
The Raiders got a runner on base in the top of the first inning after drawing a walk but couldn't do anymore.
The Demons then led off the bottom portion of the inning with a Daron Sinceno single. Sinceno then stole second and moved to third on a grounder. Dalton Freeman was walked and moved to second. Both runners then scored on consecutive passed balls to give the Demons a 2-0 lead after one inning.
The Raiders put two runners on in the top of the second on a walk and a hit batter. With two outs the runner on second was picked off to end the threat and end the top of the inning.
The Demons added another run in the bottom of the second inning when Jordy Thomassen reached on an error, stole second and scored on Cayman Pugh's sacrificial fly for a 3-0 Demons lead after two innings.
The Demons added six more runs in the bottom of the third and final inning when two hit batters and a single by JoJo Burkhalter loaded the bases. Freeman then singled in a run before Kaedon Jenkins pushed a run across when he hit into a fielder's choice. Two more runs scored on wild pitches for a 6-0 Demons lead before Kaden Breaux walked and scored on a wild pitch after stealing second. Thomassen singled and both runners moved over on a double steal. Thomassen scored on an error when Pugh hit and that was the final, 9-0.
FHS head baseball Coach Clay Tageant commented, “I was really pleased with how my guys competed Friday. Hosting the jamboree comes with a lot of challenges, distractions, and makes for a long day, but I was very pleased with how my guys handled the day. “
He added, “I really like the chemistry of this team. They genuinely care about one another and our program. I felt like our youth and inexperience finally caught up to us last year in the playoffs and I am really looking forward to this group taking the next step and continuing to grow each day.”
The Demons will travel to Pope John Paul on Thursday before hosting Fontainebleau on Friday and Newman on Saturday. They will then go to Central in Baton Rouge on Tuesday.
