The Franklinton Demons baseball team held a home game last Friday at Demon Diamond against the 5A Ponchatoula Green Wave and came away with a thrilling 9-8 victory. The win moves the Demons record to 2-2 on the season.
The Green Wave went up 2-1 in the first inning before the Demons tied it in the second. The Demons then took the lead in the third 5-2 before the Green Wave took the lead 6-5 in the top of the fourth. The Demons tied the game in the bottom before taking a 7-6 lead in the fifth.
The Green Wave stormed back for an 8-7 lead in the top of the sixth and held the Demons in the bottom to keep the lead.
The Demons then held Ponchatoula in the top of the seventh and final inning to stay within one run. Jordy Thomassen reached on an error before Jojo Burkhalter drew a walk. Dalton Freeman hit a fly ball to the outfield for an out but an error allowed Thomassen to score and tie the game. Da'Ron Sinceno and Bryce Barber each drew an intentional walk to load the bases for Kayden Breaux. Breaux then singled in the winning run to end the game in walk off fashion with the Demons up 9-8.
Rick Songy pitched four full innings striking out three, walking six and allowing three hits. Kaden Breaux pitched the final three innings allowing one hit, one walk and striking out two.
Offensively the Demons were led by Jordy Thomassen with three singles, Breaux with two singles, Byrce Barber and Caymen Pugh each had a double, Songy and Jojo Burkhalter with a single each.
The Demons will participate in the Belle Chasse tournament this weekend going against St Martins, Maurepas and Shaw on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. They will then go on the road to Patrick Taylor on February 24.
