The Franklinton Junior High Lady Falcons softball team put together an impressive performance last week, highlighted by a dominant 13-4 victory over Holden on Monday.
After surrendering two runs in the top of the first inning, the Lady Falcons wasted no time responding. Coach Lester Jenkins' squad answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 3-2 lead. Franklinton continued to build momentum, stretching the advantage to 7-2 in the second inning and 10-2 by the end of the third.
The Lady Falcons put the game out of reach in the fourth inning, pushing their lead to 13-2. Holden managed to plate two runs in the top of the fifth, but Franklinton's early offensive surge proved more than enough in the 13-4 final.
Gabby Anderson led the charge at the plate with a double and two singles. Gracie Polkey added a double and a single, while Christine Hampton tripled. Ava Walker contributed a double and also earned the win in the circle. Raylinn Hines and Anabelle Venable each added singles to round out the team's balanced offensive effort.
Franklinton carried that momentum into Tuesday's matchup against Lee Road, earning a 5-0 shutout victory. A five-run second inning provided all the offense the Lady Falcons would need as their defense kept Lee Road off the scoreboard.
Raylinn Hines sparked the offense with two hits and four RBIs. Polkey doubled, Hampton collected two singles and drove in a run, and Avery Thompson added a hit in the win.
The Lady Falcons wrapped up the week on Wednesday but fell short in a 9-6 loss to Slidell. Despite the setback, Franklinton showcased its offensive firepower once again. Hines recorded two hits and an RBI, while Hampton and Arabella Gay each added a hit. Anderson turned in a standout performance with a triple, a single, four RBIs and a thrilling steal of home that highlighted the game. Polkey and Thompson also contributed hits.
Franklinton will look to bounce back as the Lady Falcons host Fifth Ward on February 23 and Mt. Hermon on February 24.
