The Franklinton Demons baseball team had a solid week last week as they won three games over Varnado, Sumner and Hammond while dropping a hard fought 2-1 decision to Ponchatoula. The Demons ended the week with a fine 7-1 overall record.
On Thursday the Demons faced off with Sumner with Dillon Pace getting the starting nod for the Demons. The Demons got out to a 2-0 start after one inning as Tryson Fowler reached on an error before Micah Wascom singled him in. Will Turner reached on a walk and Wascom scored when Banyan Penton ground out.
The Demons added three more in the third as Wascom singled before Turner tripled him in and scored on Penton's sacrifice fly to right field. Fowler doubled, stole second, moved to third and then home on an error for the 5-0 lead.
The Demons added four more runs in the fourth as Rickken Burkhalter reached on an error and Fowler drew a walk. Turner then singled in both of those runners before he was scored on Penton's double. Ricky Washington singled to score Penton for the 9-0 lead.
The Cowboys got a run in the fifth on two hit batters and an error to cut the Demons lead to 9-1.
The Demons scored two runs in the sixth as Turner was hit by a pitch before Penton singled. Turner scored on a wild pitch and Penton scored on Nathan Parden's double. After the Demons pitcher, Tyler Hammond got out the Cowboys in the bottom of the sixth the Demons had won by the ten run rule.
Dillon Pace pitched three innings allowing one hit, walking two and striking out one. Tyler Hammond pitched three innings allowing no hits, walking one, striking out three with two hit batters.
Offensively for the Demons Nathan Parden had a double and two singles, Ricky Burkhalter had two doubles, Will Turner had a triple and a single, Banyan Penton had a double and a single, Micah Wascom had two singles and Rickken Burkhalter had a single as did Tyler Hammond.
Against Hammond Dillon Pace pitched six and two thirds of the game striking out nine batters before Jacob Tullos struck out the final batter to preserve the win. Banyan Penton and Micah Wascom each had two hits and Trevor Vise and Nate Parden each had a single.
This week the Demons will have their own tournament as they will play the Poplarville Hornets on Thursday, the Walker Wildcats on Friday and French Settlement on Saturday. On Tuesday March 15 the Demons will host the Pine Raiders.
