The Pine Raiders football team handled the Varnado Wildcats easily last Friday in Wildcat Stadium, 44-0. The win moves the Raiders’ record to 4-1 and the Wildcats to 2-3. Both teams will begin district play this week as Pine goes to Albany and Varnado hosts West St John for homecoming.
Pine’s Trey Knight passed to DJ Garrett for an eight yard touchdown to go up 7-0, before Von Johnson scored from five yards out on their next drive to go up 14-0. A bad snap on a punt play by Varnado gave Pine two points on a safety. After the kick Knight passed to Garrett again for a forty yard touchdown to put the Raiders up 23-0.
Devin Cotton intercepted a pass for the Wildcats to give them their best field position of the night at the Pine 27 but they turned the ball over on downs at the Raider 10. The Raiders then scored on a thirteen yard run by Christian Williams to go up 31-0 at the halftime.
In the second half the Raiders added two more scores as Knight passed to Delvonta Gardner for a 52 yard touchdown to put the Raiders up 37-0. The Raiders scored again late when Kylan Magee went in from ten yards out for the final score of 44-0.
