The Franklinton Demons baseball team had a great week last week as they won their games against both Pine (4-0) and Maurepas (10-1). The Demons and first year head coach Clay Tageant hold an 8-5 record as they begin district action. The Demons will host Hannan and Pearl River in district action this week on Wednesday and Friday. They will then travel to Pearl River on March 25.
Against the Raiders of Pine, Micah Wascom got the start on the mound for the Demons and struck out the side in the first. Neither team threatened until the third inning when the Demons loaded the bases before Wascom was walked to push a run across. A second run was scored when Rickken Burkhalter hit into a fielder's choice and the runner was safe at home. Elisha Hart then hit a deep fly for a sacrifice run and a 3-0 Demons lead.
Daron Sinceno reached on an error in the fifth and scored when Rickken Burkhalter also reached on an error for a 4-0 lead for the Demons.
The Raiders couldn't manage a comeback and the Demons held on for the 4-0 non district win.
Franklinton senior right hander Micah Wascom, a University of Southern Mississippi commit, pitched a complete game one hitter, striking out fourteen and allowing four walks.
Wascom, Dalton Freeman, JoJo Burkhalter and Kaden Buffinet each had singles for the Demons.
Pine’s starting pitcher, Trindon Young, allowed just four hits while striking out one and walking two. Bryce Marks had the lone hit, a single, for the Raiders.
