The Franklinton Demons football team won their third game in a row last Friday in Pearl River over the Rebels, 26-13. This moves their overall record to 4-3 and 2-0 in district. The Demons will take on the 2-5, 1-1 Salmen Spartans this Friday on the road. The Spartans defeated the Demons 39-14 last season and defeated Hannan 28-21 last week. The game will be played at Lakshore High School near Mandeville.
The Demons got on the board first when Kade Lavigne hit a 34 yard field goal with 7:30 left in the first period to give the Demons a 3-0 advantage.
The teams traded punts until the Rebels took over after a punt at the Demons 46 and eventually scored when their quarterback went in from two yards out with 7:33 left in the second for a 7-3 lead.
Again, the teams traded punts until the Rebels intercepted a pass at their own 8 yard line. The Demons defense held and forced a punt but the punt snap was over the Rebels snappers head and gave the Demons a safety and cut the lead to 7-5, which would be the score at the halftime intermission.
The Demons opened the second half with possession first and scored on the drive as they went 73 yards until Micah Hart scored from two yards out on fourth down to put the Demons up 12-7 with 8:46 left in the third.
The teams traded punts again and the game was in doubt for a lengthy period of time before the Rebels fumbled the ball at the own 35 giving the Demons an opportunity.
The Demons took advantage as they scored for a 19-7 lead when Senqualon Conerly went in from a yard out with 8:32 left in the game.
Pearl River looked to get back into the game as they drove into Demons territory and launched a pass to the goal line where the Demons Elijah Tate stripped it from the receiver before he crossed the goal line. This gave the Demons the ball at the 20 after the touchback and Kelly Daniels scored on the first play as he went 80 yards on a reverse to make the score 26-7.
The Rebels refused to give up and drove down to score on their ensuing possession to cut the lead to 26-13 after their two point conversion attempt was no good.
An attempted onsides kick was made by Pearl River but the Demons covered and knelt on the ball to run out the clock and preserve the win.
Coach Guy Lecompte still sees room for improvement in the Demons. "Yes, I'm proud of my team's effort and how far we have improved since the beginning of the season. We were penalized an awful lot and this is something that we will have to correct moving forward."
Senior quarterback Zion Anders had 62 yards passing on 4 completions of 12 attempts with an interception. He also rushed for 19 yards on 10 carries. Micah Hart had 106 yards and a touchdown rushing on 12 carries while Kelly Daniels had 106 yards and a touchdown on just 2 carries. Senqualon Conerly rushed twice for 4 yards and a touchdown. Daniel Bryant caught two passes for 19 yards and Kelly Daniels caught two passes for 43 yards. Kade Lavigne was 3 of 3 on extra point kicks and 1 of 2 on field goal attempts.
