The Jonathon Barber era as the head football coach at Franklinton High school is seemingly at an end as of last Saturday. Shane Smith, principal of Franklinton High school, released this statement Saturday afternoon:
"After discussing the state of Franklinton High School’s Football program, the school administration and Coach Barber have decided to move Demon football in a different direction by seeking a new head coach. We appreciate the time Coach Barber has invested into the program. He is a former player and assistant coach and wants what’s best for our players. He also is an asset on the faculty at FHS.
Moving forward we will seek the most qualified applicant who will utilize the resources we have to develop players and maintain a successful program. We hope to make a decision on our next head coach following the LHSAA Football State Championships. Our plan is to have this coach in place when we return from the Christmas break."
Coach Barber headed up the Demons football program from 2018-2021 and had a record of 14 wins and 27 losses. Under his leadership the Demons qualified for the playoffs in three of his four seasons. Barber was an assistant under both Stephen Burris and Shane Smith as well as having played for Smith.
