The Franklinton Demons football team participated in the Northshore High jamboree last Friday, taking on the Slidell Tigers in two fifteen minute halves in their jamboree game.
The Tigers opened the scoring quickly as they returned the opening kickoff back for a touchdown to put the Tigers up 7-0. On the ensuing kickoff a fumble by the Demons allowed the Tigers to scoop up the ball and score again putting them up 13-0 after a missed extra point.
Both teams traded punts after this before the Demons drove inside the Tigers redzone but missed a 30 yard field goal when it hit the upright and bounced out.
The teams traded punts again before the Tigers drove for a score on a two yard run by their back, Trevel Watts, with 3:20 left in the first half to put them up 20-0.
On the opening drive of the second half the Demons offense drove to the Tigers two yard line but failed to score turning the ball over on downs there.
The Tigers drove 98 yards to score on a five yard run by their back with 7:01 left in the second half for a 27-0 lead.
The Demons mustered a late drive as they moved the ball out over midfield but time ran out on them there.
Franklinton head coach Guy Lecompte saw good and bad in the Demons’ jamboree game with the Tigers. "Overall, our effort was good and we avoided penalties. However, we had too many blown assignments. This is the reason for jamborees and it's nothing we can't fix."
Quarterback Zion Anders was 5 of 13 passing for 40 yards and rushed three times for 26 yards. Senqualon Conerly rushed five times for 16 yards, Kelly Daniels three for 7 yards and Sy Austin three for 14 yards. Daniel Bryant caught two passes for 13 yards, Colin Stewart had one for 25, Amias Tate one for 2 yards and Conerly one for no yards.
The Demons will engage their ancient rivals, the Bogalusa Lumberjacks, this Friday in Bogalusa to open the regular season. Bogalusa has defeated the Demons the previous three seasons. The Lumberjacks defeated South Plaquemine 21-0 in their jamboree game also played last Friday evening.
