The football coaches of District 9-2A have released their all district selections for the 2021 football season. District 9-2A is made up of Amite, Kentwood, St Helena, Pine, Varnado and Independence. The state champion Amite Warriors dominated the selections with19 first team selections. However, the Pine Raiders and the Varnado Wildcats were well represented in the selections.
Adrainuen Johnson, the Raiders running back, was selected to the first team for the third consecutive season and was also awarded the prized district offensive MVP for his 1802 yards rushing and 29 touchdowns in his senior season. Bryson Thomas was selected to the first team as an offensive lineman.
On defense for the Raiders John Caldwell was selected to the first team defense as a linebacker with 72 tackles and Cam Brown was selected to the first team as a defensive lineman with 4 sacks.
Second team selections for the Raiders were Bryson Thomas as a defensive lineman with 5 sacks, sophomore Ethan Rester as a linebacker and Kemontre Magee as a back with 406 yards rushing and 190 receiving. Preston Stogner with 135 yards receiving, James Owens with 271 yards and 5 touchdowns receiving and Luke Spears with 1072 yards and 7 touchdowns passing were honorable mention selections.
Coach Bradley Seal of the Raiders said, "We had a nice season this year and these players deserve to be recognized. Adrainuen had a great year as he was also honorable mention all state and the district MVP, but its nice to see our other players recognized too."
For the Varnado Wildcats Malik Patterson was selected to the first team offense as a tight end and Tyron Holmes was selected on the first team defense as a linebacker.
Varnado Coach Adam Brumfield on his first team selections, "Malik Patterson was a great kid who did a lot for us on both sides of the ball. He hurt his knee on the opening kickoff of the week one game against Pine. The injury cost him a few games but he eventually came back and was our best weapon on offense. Tyron Holmes as a linebacker was our defensive leader. He's a hard worker and a smart kid. He led our team in tackles and didn't miss a game all year. He also started at center for us and did an incredible job on the offensive side of the ball."
Second team selections for the Wildcats were Quovadis Bickham as a receiver, Donte Parnell offensive lineman, Zamarian Washington as an athlete, Jamari Lewis as a defensive back, Tyran Holmes as an offensive lineman, Devonte Magee as offensive flex and Christian Fox as a defensive lineman.
Offensive linemen Ashton Smith, Chase Lewis, TyDarain Brooks, Christian Fox, defensive lineman Donte Pernell and defensive back Quovadis Bickham were all honorable mention selections.
