Parish Council approves solar moratorium in special meeting Thursday

Update: In a special meeting late Thursday afternoon, the Washington Parish Council approved a moratorium on granting approvals for solar farms.
Before a standing room only crowd at the parish courthouse, the council unanimously voted to put the brakes on future solar development in Washington Parish -- at least temporarily.

Washington Parish School Board, Superintendent Jennifer Thomas recently shared "The State of Our Schools."
She prefaced it by saying, "It's not always pretty," and was upfront about the challenges of a student count that is 80 percent in poverty and the seemingly insurmountable hurdle of moving the state assigned Grade B to an A.

Polling places will be open from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. this Saturday (June 27) for primary run-off races.
Saturday’s election involves run-offs for both U.S. Senate and the District 1 seat on the Louisiana Public Service Commission. Also, a tax proposition is on the ballot for Fire Protection District 1.
