Farewell party set for retiring parish director of finance

Longtime Washington Parish Director of Finance and Personnel Donna Graham is officially retiring on June 30.
The Parish Government is hosting a retirement party for her this coming Monday, June 23, at 4:30 pm. in the Council Chambers of the Courthouse. Everyone is invited at attend and pay respects to Mrs. Graham.

Fair flag ceremony held at courthouse

A sure sign that the Washington Parish Fair is almost here is the annual Fair Flag-Raising ceremony at the courthouse in Franklinton. Held last Friday morning, the ceremony attracted an enthusiastic crowd. In the photo above, cheerleaders from Bowling Green School and Franklinton High School are shown marching into the ceremony.

Now visible in various places around Washington Parish are hibiscus flowers, such as this one spotted off of the Enon Highway south of Franklinton. Hibiscus is a plant suited to hot weather, and there is no shortage of hot weather and hibiscus flowers in Washington Parish!
