Hello to all of my faithful readers. I apologize for not writing a column for the past two weeks. But, I’m back now! As we all know, this heat has been extreme. Please be safe and stay hydrated. Cooler days are coming!
I want to wish a special Happy Anniversary to my parents, Rachel and Earl Gill. August 7, 2026 made 50 years of marriage for them. This is such a blessing! I pray that they both have many more wonderful years together.
The Saturday before their anniversary, we had a celebration at our church, Mt. Hermon United Pentecostal Church. Lots of family and friends stopped by throughout the afternoon to offer congratulations and love. Everyone enjoyed a delicious Chantilly cake and hors d’ ouevres. The golden couple received many beautiful presents, but they are most thankful for the “presence” of family and friends who were there to mark the joyous occasion with them.
Condolences to the family and friends of Brandon Neil Toney and Monique Lynelle Gilmore Scott.

Louisiana High School Athletic Association recognized 94 member schools that completed the 2025-26 school year violation-free, earning the designation of LHSAA School of Distinction. Congratulations to MHS for being 1 of these 94 schools, which represent approximately only 24 percent of the LHSAA membership. “Being violation-free is a significant accomplishment and one that deserves to be recognized, according to LHSAA Executive Director, Eddie Bonine. It represents the commitment of an entire school community to understanding our rules, following our processes, and doing things the right way.” What an awesome accomplishment, MHS!
Congratulations to Madison Montecino for recently being promoted to Sergeant in the U.S. Army! She is a 2020 graduate of MHS, and the daughter of Shaunna and Jeremy Freeman. We thank you for your service, Sergeant Montecino.

A Ladies Night Out is on the calendar for August 29th, and it’s a Line-Dancing competition! Corey Davis will be there singing all of your favorite line-dancing songs. The competition is from 7-9 PM, but you may get there at 6 PM. No matter if you can dance or not, I’m sure all the ladies will have a great time!
You might have already seen the signs about bridge construction on Hwy. 1055 and the road being closed from now until March of 2027. However, at this time, you can get to the Silver Creek Campground from Hwy. 38, by turning on Hwy. 1055 by Brook’s General Store.
Have a blessed week, and keep on smiling!
