Hello, Mt. Hermon! We made it to September! It’s time to get those pumpkins out!
Happy Anniversary to Pauline and Jerry Lane Creel, Amy and Michael Lebo, and Amanda and Kirk Schilling.
To all of Mt. Hermon, in case you haven’t heard, the Washington Parish School Board is proposing to remove grades 7th-12th from Mt. Hermon School. There will be a community meeting at Mt. Hermon School on Thursday, September 10 at 5:00 PM. The school board will present the proposed changes and questions can be asked by those attending the meeting. The school board will then take some time to consider the input from citizens at the community meeting before a special meeting takes place for the school board to vote.
Please don’t think that you will not be affected by the closing of MHS if you don’t have children or grandchildren who attend there, even if the elementary remains. This affects everyone, residents and businesses!
What some may not consider is that not all students will remain in the public school system of Washington Parish. Many will choose home school, private school, or leave this school district completely. Therefore, state funding decreases all the way around.
It is important that we all come together as a community to show our support. Let’s stand for MHS! Let’s stand for Mt. Hermon!
In other Mt. Hermon School news, Childhood Cancer Awareness Day is Wednesday, September 9th. To raise awareness, everyone is encouraged to wear gold or your brightest yellow.
If your child received an invitation to join the Elementary Beta Club, dues must be paid by September 11th. They are $20 for new members, and $10 for returning members. Thank you both, Mrs. Lynn Lewis and Mrs. Patricia Waters for being the club sponsors.
Progress reports will be sent home Tuesday, September 8th. No school on Monday, September 7th, for Labor Day!
Mt. Hermon Baptist Church
Wednesday evening children and youth activities, for ages 4-18, will be starting back Wednesday, September 9th. A meal will be served at 5:30 PM, followed by Bible Study at 6:00 PM. Adults will have Bible Study and prayer time. All are welcome!
Mt. Hermon United Pentecostal Church
We were blessed to have Timothy Norman bring us the message Sunday morning. He also gave his testimony Sunday evening at Hope Alive. All are invited to join us on Sunday mornings at 10 AM, and Sunday evenings at 7 PM for Hope Alive, with food and fellowship at 6:15.
