Hello to all my faithful readers who look forward to reading my weekly column. I enjoy sharing with you. We surely have had some really hot summer days lately. Then when the rain comes, it cools things off a bit. By the way, we've already had the temperature of 100 degrees a few days and it will probably be even hotter. Usually, July and August are extremely hot weather. Before summer is over, we will be praying for cooler weather.
A Father's Day gathering was held on Saturday afternoon before Father's Day at my granddaughter Anna Graham's home in Jayess, MS. Anna and Jenn prepared a delicious meal and all had a great visit with one another. Attending were Jennifer and Jason Watkins and children Emily, Emmett and Ava. Anna's family included husband Tyler and children Alaya and Kalem, and Bryan and I.
On Sunday I treated Bryan to Sunday lunch at Sugar Shack on the river. They had a crowd and we saw several we knew. It was good to see Mac Edwards, who was working there.
The Burch family enjoyed eating at Three Sister's Father's Day weekend. Attending were Shelby Jr., Charlie, Chris, Barbara, Brenda, Sara, Evelyn and Jase.
Weston Fortenberry placed 1st at Regional and 4th place at LSU for State. He ran the 1600 meter (mile) in four minutes-fifty-five seconds. He is in 11th grade at MHS. His sponsors are Troy Stevens and Lynn Lewis Weston. We are so proud of you. Keep up the good work.
I've been busy from one thing to another. One big job was shelling peas and putting some in the freezer. My son Bryan came in one afternoon with a five gallon bucket and half of another one from Louis. He helped me shell for a while. He had work the next day. I finished shelling the peas. My fingers were sore from shelling them. I finally got them shelled at 5 am. I put them in the fridge until the next day finishing up. I cooked a pot full and had six quart bags for the freezer. Thanks to Louis for his generosity.
Also, thanks to my friend Ms. Barbara who gave me fresh tomatoes, fresh Irish potatoes and yellow squash. She had made a squash casserole and gave me some. I also had a nice visit with her and her grandchildren. Let me tell you, Bryan and I have been eating good around here. There is nothing better than fresh garden veggies, and you can't beat that price. They were "Free". It's wonderful to have friends that share.
Please continue to pray for the sick and the families who have recently lost beloved ones. Sympathy to the family of Betty Sue Dillon Watson and to the family of Frankie Faye Dillon Thomas. Also pray for the families in the recent accident returning home from church camp. I heard someone was killed and others were seriously injured. God's blessing be with you.
I look forward to seeing you at our meeting on July 11th at Enon Baptist Church. It's always a fun time enjoying the meal and fellowship. The time is 11:30am to 1:00pm.
Don't forget the Watermelon Festival is July 10th and 11th and will be held on the Washington Parish Fairgrounds.
Take care and be safe. - Have a blessed week. - Prayerfully, Nell.
