Mount Hermon shooting victim dies, murder charges are filed

On July 23, Washington Parish Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a report of a man who had been shot near the intersection of Sunny Hill Road and Highway 38 in the Mt. Hermon area. The investigation following the shooting led to the arrest of Tyler Oatis, 18, a resident of Gill Road.

Sheriff won't appeal ruling in delinquent sales tax case

Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal said his department does not plan to appeal a judge’s ruling in a sales tax case.
Last week, District Judge Allan Zaunbrecher ruled that a Mount Hermon farm’s sheep and Black Angus cattle sales were exempt from sales tax.

Franklinton council allows event center to apply for license, but security must be in place

The August 9 Franklinton Town Council meeting began by the resuming July 12th's discussion of the Municipal Police Employees' Retirement System, also known as MPERS. After more discussion, it was determined that the council needed to better research the topic; therefore, the vote was deferred until the next scheduled town council meeting.

Parish President will check situation where school bus cannot turn around on narrow road

Once Monday's, August 8th, Washington Parish Council Meeting was called to order, the board began by accepting the previous meeting's minutes. After the typical start to the meeting, the council passed a vote accepting Ordinance 22-715, which authorizes the conveyance of removable property owned by Washington Parish Government.
