"I thought offensively we played really well. It's like I told them (the team) there's nobody on our schedule that's going to be better than them. They have been in the semifinals multiple times in a row and Nelson (Stewart, Newman head coach) and his staff do a great job. I wanted to see us compete, I felt offensively we competed. I think defensively we have a long, long way to go but we have a long time to get there. We have to work hard in the summer. We had the right call to make it a three - three scrimmage, ones on ones against that football team. So, I'm really, really pleased with how we played. You're never pleased with the result, even though it's a scrimmage, you go home and you count they had three scores and we had two scores. But I'm very happy with how we played offensively and defensively we're going to have to figure out where we're going to go and we'll figure that out during the course of the summer." --- Franklinton football coach Nick Saltaformaggio on their scrimmage with Newman
"We won 21-7. Offensively it took us a couple plays to get in a rhythm but after about the third play we moved the ball well. On defense I liked how our middle linebackers and defensive line played. I am pleased with where we are right now but it's not where we need to be. We need a strong summer in the weight room to accomplish the things we want to." --- Pine football coach Bradley Seal on their scrimmage with St Helena
We put in a new offense and for only ten days of practice I thought it went pretty well. We moved the ball, but we have a lot that we need to work on. Our timing needs to get better, we need to finish blocks and we dropped too man passes but those things can be fixed. I thought our two kids competing at the quarterback position, Tyriq Bell and Josh Fox both played well. That's a positive because everyone knows the importance of that position. Defensively, we have a new coordinator, Coach Chris Gale, so we installed a new defense during the spring as well. We shuffled some kids around and I think after watching film we will have a better idea of who needs to be where. We have a good group of kids this year who I think will continue to improve. I told the kids after the game that football isn't rocket science. When you don't have a super star on the team just a bunch of good kids it comes down to being physical up front and tackling. We have to improve at those two things more than anything. The team that's physical up front and tackles usually wins the ball game." --- Varnado football coach Adam Brumfield on their scrimmage with Springfield
"Overall, I was pleased with the way our young guys played." --- Franklinton Junior high football coach Andy Creel on their scrimmage with Kentwood
"Inexperienced on offense, but that was expected. Defensively got to find depth but overall that unit played well. Replacing every starter on offense except two so there will be growing pains. But summer work we will fix what's needed." --- Amite football coach Zephaniah Powell on their scrimmage with Independence
"We set out to establish a culture of having spring practice. We also wanted to get our middle schoolers involved. We did both. We played Bay High and had four scores to four scores. We were able to play three quarterbacks and all did a great job. Tashod Badon rushed for 140 yards on 13 carries." --- Pearl River football coach Eric Collins
