The Franklinton Junior High Falcons football team dropped a close, hard fought game against the Pine Junior High Raiders last Tuesday in Demon Stadium. After the dust settled the Falcons were on the wrong end of a 16-14 score, placing them behind the Raiders in the standings for the parish junior high championship game. The Falcons will host the Mt Hermon Yellow Jackets on October 3 in Demon Stadium.
Franklinton Falcon's Coach Andy Creel said his team did some of what they needed to do but just didn't complete the job. "We hung around and hung around and fought back but we couldn't make the plays when we needed to."
After a three and out by the Falcons to start the game the Raiders scored on a two play drive using a 55 yard run to go up 7-0 in the first quarter. After the kickoff that the Falcons muffed around the Falcons were set to begin their drive from their own four yard but the Raiders tackled a Falcon ball carrier in the endzone for a safety to push their lead to 9-0.
After holding the Raiders on downs the Falcons used a six play drive to score on a six yard run by Matthew Harding to cut the score to 9-7.
After again forcing the Raiders to punt the Falcons drove inside the Raiders one yard line but time ran out in the first half with them about to run their third down play.
Neither team could gain an advantage in the third but the Raiders scored in the fourth on a nine yard pass to go up 16-7 with about four minutes left in the game.
The Falcons then scored on their second offensive play as Stephen Tate passed to KJ Brown for a 42 yard pass to cut the score to 16-14 with 3:53 left in the game.
The Raiders then ran out the remainder of the clock and preserve their victory as the Falcons could not force them to punt.
