Game of the Week - Bogalusa at Franklinton. This game will probably be my game of the week every year. This year it means a lot to both teams. The Demons haven't won this series since 2018 and need a win period making this game ultra important for them. Of added importance the Demons are looking to start their season off under their new head coach with a win making this game very big for them. The Lumberjacks are looking to prove that they are one of the top 3A teams in the state this season after the disappointing end to their great season last year and need to get off to a good start. This game is huge!
The trash talking has already started between the two communities on the job and social media.
Should be a good one.
Notes and Quotes
In huge LHSAA news a Louisiana judge has issued a temporary injunction that was filed by nine schools from northeast Louisiana, lead by Neville to bar the LHSAA from continuing to use the current playoff format and revert to the playoff format in place prior to 2022.
The format used in 2022, and was set to be used this season as well was of four Select classes and four Non-Select classes. Prior to 2022 the format was four Select and five Non-Select.
The big dispute is how the Executive Committee made the changes to the playoff format and how they reclassified numerous schools by redefining the word "Select".
This is a temporary injunction while the lawsuit continues, so it is possible that the playoff format could change yet again by the time the football playoffs arrive. This, of course, would affect baseball, basketball and softball playoffs as well.
"We are improving. We have a few things to iron out, but effort is not one. That gives me encouragement that we are moving forward." --- Franklinton coach Nick Saltaformaggio
"A win is a win. But I thought we played very sloppy. Too many fumbles and penalties. We have to get that cleaned up. There were some good things. Caydn Stogner is looking real good on defense as he had two sacks and a forced fumble. I also thought the people that got the ball on offense looked good. We just have to clean everything up." ---Pine coach Bradley Seal
"Our kids played hard. We had too many penalties that we need to clean up but we will get better in that department. Right before half we got to their ten and then had a penalty, followed by a missed receiver in the end zone and the following play we threw a pick six. That basically was the difference in the game. At the beginning of the year special teams, turnovers and penalties cost you games. Our special teams played well. Chad Ladner returned a kick for a touchdown. Our punt team looked good but penalties in the redzone and pick six is hard to recover from. You have to learn from them and just get better and we will. My goal wasn't to win the jamboree, it was to improve and I think we did." ---Varnado coach Adam Brumfield
"We are so close to being a really good team. We just have to put it all together. Dropped passes and fumbles plagued us last night. Our running backs fight and run so hard for extra yards that they put themselves in situations to fumble. We have got to protect the ball better in heavy traffic. We will get it all put together as we fine tune towards district play. We have two weeks before district play begins. Our defense is flying to the ball and playing good football." --- Bowling Green coach Jason Johnson
"
We played a clean football game last night on offense and defense. It was a good victory for our kids and we are going to try to keep getting better week by week."
--- Bens Ford coach Destin Pittman
