The Franklinton Junior High Falcons put together a complete performance last Tuesday night in Amite, dominating Amite from start to finish in a 34-0 shutout. This puts the Falcons record at a nice 5-0 on the season. The Falcons will host Loranger at home on October 13.
Franklinton wasted little time establishing control. The Falcons opened the game with a 70-yard scoring drive, capped by a 4-yard touchdown run by Jy'Quarious Dykes. Franklinton added a successful two-point conversion on a run by Knox Smith to take an 8-0 lead.
The Falcons struck again on their next possession, marching 60 yards in just seven plays. Dykes found the end zone again, this time on an 8-yard touchdown run, giving Franklinton a 14-0 advantage. The two-point attempt was unsuccessful.
Franklinton continued to control the game in the second quarter. A six-play, 60-yard drive ended with quarterback Dempsey Freeman scoring on a 1-yard touchdown run. The Falcons were unable to convert the two-point attempt, but carried a commanding 20-0 lead into halftime.
The Franklinton defense then created another scoring opportunity early in the second half, recovering a fumble at the Amite 25-yard line. The Falcons needed only four plays to capitalize, with Smith breaking loose for a 10-yard touchdown run. The extra point was good, pushing the margin to 27-0.
Amite mounted its longest drive of the night in the fourth quarter, but Franklinton's defense came up with the biggest play of the game. Jaxen Magee intercepted a pass and returned it 88 yards for a touchdown, putting the finishing touches on the shutout. Matthew Zachry added the extra point, making the final score 34-0.
Franklinton's performance featured an efficient running attack, opportunistic defense and big plays when they mattered most. The Falcons scored on their opening possession, forced a fumble that led to a touchdown and closed the game with an interception return for six.
