The United States Department of Agriculture Service Center on Washington Street in Franklinton was dark and silent on Monday due to the federal government shutdown. The office, located on Washington Street just east of downtown, had a notice on the locked door explaining the reason for the closure. Although both Republicans and Democrats in Congress have pointed fingers at each other to blame for the shutdown, those of us not in Congress might see the reason for the shutdown as a lack of cooperation. It is worth noting that while paychecks for federal workers and members of the military are delayed, Congress will still get paid on time.
